Macs Go to Work - 87% of Workplaces Have Macs
The Mac in the Gray Flannel Suit, the cover story of the latest issue of Business Week, explores the use of Macs in the corporate world. While many companies continue to primarily purchase and support PCs, the article notes that according to a survey by market research firm Yankee Group, 87% of respondents report at least some Macs in the company, up from 48% percent just two years ago.
That doesn’t mean that 87% of corporations are primarily using Macs, only that Macs are allowed and supported within the company. That’s a far cry from the days when I had to sneak my Mac Plus into work each day. (If you’ve ever seen a Mac Plus, you know that was no easy feat.)
Which brings me to this weekend’s poll: Do you use a Mac at work? Do you have a choice as to the type of computer you use? Or are you strictly an at-home Mac user? You may select more than one answer.

We use Macs…lots and lots…we are an elementary school. The only people who use pcs are the office drones.
How narrowly are you defining the workplace–office only? Any schoolteacher I know has been using Macs for years.

I always think of the “office” as any place where someone performs work. Generally, it’s a pretty broad definition that covers most people and the types of work they do.
For example, years ago, our local police force started using laptops in patrol cars (Mac laptops, as it happens, the PowerBook 5300). I’d call police cars rolling offices, at least for this poll.
I use at Mac for everything, wouldn’t think of NOT using one. I don’t work in a typical office anymore but when I did, it was strictly Mac’s, although it was a fashion house!
