.Mac May Get a New Name
Ever since OS X 10.5.3 was released a few days ago, rumors have been flying about .Mac, Apple’s suite of online services. According to the rumors, .Mac is about to undergo a name change, and perhaps a major functional change as well.
Clues buried in 10.5.3 point to a .Mac name change. In many cases, the .Mac name has been removed from text strings, and replaced with a placeholder that would allow Apple to easily update the .Mac name at any time.
Further proof comes from the Coding Robots blog, which uncovered a .Mac name change hard-coded into the most recent iPhone SDK (Software Developers Kit). According to Coding Robots, the new name will be some variation of MobileMe.
