Firefox 3 for the Mac Now Available
Yesterday Mozilla, creator of the Firefox web browser, attempted to get into the Guinness Book of World Records by having the most downloads of an application in a single day.
Firefox is a trademark of the Mozilla Foundation
It seems everyone but Mozilla realized that any level of success at setting a download record would just lead to server overload, causing the servers to go offline and preventing anyone from being able to download anything.
Can you guess what happened? Yep, the Mozilla servers were overwhelmed with requests, sending some of the servers offline and frustrating most of the people who were trying to download the new browser. Despite these predictable glitches, Mozilla managed to set a record: more than 8.2 million downloads in 24 hours. As it happens, Mozilla would have set a record even if the servers had melted down after a few hundred downloads. It seems there has never been an entry for this particular record.
Now that the record-setting attempt is over, most individuals are finding that Firefox 3 is readily available. The new Mac version loads web pages faster, has a nifty one-click bookmarking system, and built-in anti-phishing and malware protection.
