MobileMe Stirs to Life With an Early Launch

Sunday June 29, 2008

Although the official launch is still almost two weeks away, Apple has activated .Me email accounts for current .Mac users. For example, if your .Mac email address is myusername@mac.com, you can start using myusername@me.com.

For now, any email sent to an @mac.com or @me.com email address will be delivered to both accounts, so you don’t have to worry about losing messages during the changeover. Apple hasn’t specified a date for turning off @mac.com email addresses, but in all likelihood, they will remain available for a long time.

This is a pre-launch testing phase, so don’t be surprised if the mail service comes and goes. Apple will be working on eliminating any glitches before the official rollout on July 11, so the service is likely to experience a few hiccups.
