Speed-Bumped iMacs Later This Year?
While many Mac enthusiasts are carefully watching to see what will come our way in September, a few are speculating that iMacs will be updated before the Christmas holiday season.

AppleInsider believes that 20- and 24-inch iMacs will receive minor speed bumps sometime in November. These updates will be made without any Apple event. Instead, Apple will distribute a routine press announcement about the availability of updated iMacs.
Apple has performed this type of update before. It usually involves replacing a processor with one that operates at a slightly faster rate. In most cases, there are no internal or external design changes, other than the processor, so updated iMacs are certainly a possibility. On the other hand, iMacs are one of the most current products in the Mac product line, after being refreshed in April.
If AppleInsider is correct, it would lead us at About: Macs to wonder what would be on tap for January Macworld, which usually centers around new consumer Macs, like the iMac.
What do you think?

I am a returner to Mac and am thrilled I did so. I personally can’t wait to see what they bring out, not that I will be replacing, my now much loved MacBook but updates are always welcome. Shall keep an eye on what you have to say.
Cheers
Elaine
I would love to see a 30″ IMac. I would buy one in a minute.
Hi Elaine,
Welcome back! I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying your new MacBook. So, now that you have had some time with your new Mac, what are the biggest differences you’ve discovered, good or bad, between your MacBook and your previous computer, which I assume was a PC?
Tom
Hi Robert,
A 30″ iMac would be huge, in more ways than one. While I doubt we will see such a behemoth, I suppose a 27″ is a possibility in a one year sort of time frame, certainly not this year though.
Personally I would like to see some improvements in expansion options for the iMac. Specifically I’d like to see the hard drive be an easy user replaceable part, much like the iMac’s memory is easy for users to expand.

Hi Tom,
I understand what you say about the hard drive. In fact a second internal hard drive would be great just to use as a quick back up of files and movies. I did my www.RobertLNewman.com web-site on iWeb and would love to keep backups. That is the reason for the big monitor. To get Apple’s 30″ now you have to buy the tower to run it. The Mini can’t, and the 30″ monitor does not have the built in iSight camera, which is so convenient.
