AOL Releases Beta 1 of AIM for Mac

Tuesday September 30, 2008

The last time AOL updated the AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) client for the Mac was in 2004. Since then, AOL has allowed the Mac AIM client to languish. But according to AOL, that's about to change. AOL claims it is committed to growing its Mac market, and says that the new version of AIM will be written for the Mac from the ground up.

The beta 1 version of AIM includes the ability to use AIM Expressions, which lets you change AIM sounds, wallpaper, emoticons, and buddy icons. Beta 1 also includes tabbed IM conversations, support for AIM groups, and AIM Blast, which lets individuals join a group conversation from a Buddy List.

You can download the beta 1 version of AIM for Mac from the AIM for Mac web site.
