Apple Confirms October 14th for a Notebook Event

Thursday October 9, 2008

Earlier today, Apple sent invitations to select media representatives (mine must have gotten lost in the mail). The invitation depicts a notebook with the Apple logo, illuminated by a single shaft of light. The caption reads, ‘The spotlight turns to notebooks.’ Other than the date and time (October 14th at 10 am PST), that’s all the invitation had to say.

We can be pretty sure that a new generation of notebooks is on the way, as opposed to speed-bumped MacBooks. I expect to see 15- and 17-inch notebooks, as well as a smaller one around the size of the current MacBook or MacBook Air, with its 13.3-inch screen. I also expect cutting-edge graphics performance for mobile devices out of at least one of the new notebooks. We may also see a new low-end model that once again breaks the $1000 price barrier.

Next Tuesday’s announcements should have something for everyone who wants an Apple notebook, from a sub-$1000 notebook to high-end notebooks with advanced graphics processors that will make them ideal choices for video and graphics professionals.

I wouldn’t be surprised to also see a speed-bumped MacBook Air, although it may not make an appearance onstage.
