Apple Extends Some MacBook Pro Warranties Due to Video Problems
Apple is extending the warranty on specific MacBook Pro notebooks built between May 2007 and September 2008. The models affected include the 2.2 and 2.4 GHz versions that contain the NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics processor.

Users have reported ongoing video problems with these models, ranging from a completely blank screen to a severely distorted image on the screen. Until now, Apple has been addressing the issue piecemeal, offering repairs or replacements as warranted. Apple now says it has linked the problem to the NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics processor.
This summer, NVIDIA acknowledged an overheating problem with some 8600M GT cards, but said the issues wouldn’t affect any products used in Apple computers. Apple and its customers disagree.
The extended warranty will cover repair or replacement for a two-year period from the date of sale. Apple will also refund any related repair costs customers may have already incurred.
