Apple iPhone Reaches Number One in the U.S.

Tuesday November 11, 2008

According to the NPD Group, a market research firm that specializes in covering the wireless industry, the Apple iPhone 3G is now the best-selling cell phone in the U.S. market, after knocking the Motorola RAZR out of the coveted top spot.

The top five cell phones based on Q3 sales are:

  • Apple iPhone 3G
  • Motorola RAZR V3 (all models)
  • RIM BlackBerry Curve (all models)
  • LG Rumor
  • LG enV2

The iPhone is an unarguable winner, having reached the top in one of the shortest time frames in the industry. It will be telling to see what percentage of revenue the iPhone accounts for when Apple releases its first quarter 2009 results.
