Safari 3.2 Now Available

Thursday November 13, 2008

Apple has released Safari 3.2 for OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger), OS X 10.5.5 (Leopard), and Windows XP and Vista. This latest release primarily deals with security issues, including protection from phishing web sites designed to harvest personal information.

While many of the security fixes are primarily for the Windows version, Mac users also have a reason to download and install Safari 3.2. It includes an update to WebKit, the underlying web rendering engine that Safari uses. Safari sometimes unexpectedly quits when visiting maliciously crafted web sites. The changes to WebKit allow additional validation of JavaScript before the code is executed, which will prevent many of the unexpected terminations of Safari from occurring.

WebKit security has also been enhanced to block any Safari plug-in from launching local files at the direction of maliciously crafted web sites.

Apple recommends the Safari 3.2 update and we here at About: Macs agree, because it’s important to keep browsers current. You can download Safari 3.2 through Software Update (Apple menu, Software Update), or directly from the Apple web site.
