Tweetie for Mac: Tom’s Budget Software Pick

Saturday May 9, 2009

If you use Twitter, take a look at Tweetie for Mac, a Twitter client that has become my favorite Twitter application. There are numerous reasons why, but at the top of my list are speed, reliability, and features.

One thing I really like is that Tweetie seems to use native OS X APIs rather than run on top of a third-party application such as Adobe Air, a common platform used by other Twitter clients. Sure, Adobe Air lets you create cross-platform applications, but I run a Mac and I want my applications to be Mac-like. Tweetie for Mac fits that desire quite well because it feels like a native Mac application.

Tweetie’s features are also well thought out. While it’s easy to see a stream of tweets from the people I follow, it’s just as easy to see a complete conversation by double-clicking any of the tweets. Tweets are searchable, as is all of the Twitter universe, from within the application. Other nice features are separate tabs for @replies, Direct Messages, and support for multiple Twitter accounts.

If you tweet, give Tweetie a try.

Tweetie for Mac is $19.95 A free ad-supported version is also available.
