Smultron, a free text editor for the Mac that is one of my favorite code editors, has come to the end of its life. Smultron was created by Peter Borg, who also created a few other little gems that are popular with OS X administrators and developers.
When I stopped by Peter’s web site this morning, I was greeted with the following:
Hi!
First of all I'd like to thank you for your interest in my applications. But I have now come to a point where I don't have the time to spend on the applications that they deserve so I have decided to not release any more versions for the foreseeable future.
Cheers,
Peter Borg
I like Smultron for its easy-to-use interface, syntax highlighting, and split-window capability. It was my go-to editor for working with OS X Server, as well as editing text files over an FTP link to a remote site.
Peter Borg has left the current versions of his applications available for downloading from the SourceForge web site. If you use his applications, or want to give them a try, do it soon before the download sites go dark.

Sad news, but understandable. Good luck with all future endeavors Peter! And thank you for the best text editor out there.
Josh
I’ve downloaded also the source code, that will do it for me to be safe to get my beloved Smultron running also on future versions of OsX. Cheers Markus
It’s been updated to 3.8 with SL support, but it’s only available from the new mac app store and costs $4.99. I now use Fraise.
