New York Times Editor May Have Let Cat Out of the Bag
The Gawker is reporting that New York Times editor Bill Keller may have let slip a tidbit of information about an upcoming Apple iTablet, or as Bill referred to it, an Apple slate. The presentation was intended to promote NYT's commitment to bringing its content to mobile devices. In the presentation, Bill said:
Sixth, we need to figure out the right journalistic product to deliver to mobile platforms and devices. I'm hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple slate, or whatever comes after that.
Earlier in the year, it was rumored that Apple had been approaching various content publishers, including the New York Times, to discuss making their products available to a new Apple tablet device that would function much like an e-reader. If that's more than just a rumor, then it's possible Bill Keller may have had access to the negotiations with Apple. It may also be true that Bill is now looking over his shoulder, wondering when Steve Jobs will jump out and carry him off to the Apple dungeons, where no leaks go unpunished.
