Apple Completes MobileMe Shutdown

Apple today hung out the "Closed" sign for its MobileMe service. MobileMe has actually been closed since June 30th, but Apple left the iDisk and photo gallery services active until today, so users could download any data they wished to keep.

With today's notice, Apple has turned the lights off and closed the doors on MobileMe permanently. In its place, Apple offers iCloud, which has a big advantage in being a free service, but lacks some of the cool capabilities that were part of MobileMe.
