Oracle today released a patch for Java SE 7, just days after a security issue was detected in the software.

The Oracle update (Security alert CVE-2012-4681) specifically addresses the issues I mentioned in Tuesday's blog, as well as two additional issues that Oracle uncovered. All issues relate to Java running on desktop computers or as web browser plug-ins.
The latest version of the Java runtime engine is Java SE 7 update 7, sometimes referred to as Java SE 7u7. You can find the update on the Java web site's downloads page.
Remember, this update is for Java SE 7. If you're using an earlier version, such as Java SE 6, you don't need this update. Java SE 6 doesn't have the security issues that were found in SE 7. If you need help to determine which version of Java you're using on your Mac, check out Tuesday's blog, linked above.
