The new 2012 iMacs went on sale today at Apple's online store, its retail stores, and all Apple-authorized resellers. The new iMacs use a new display lamination process that reduces glare, creating a better user experience. The improved display is a bright spot in the new design, but delivery times, at least for the 27-inch model, may disappoint many buyers.

The 21.5-inch models are showing up as readily available. If you order one online, you can currently expect delivery within 3 days. Most retail outlets have the basic models in stock, so you may be able to get your hands on one even faster.
The same can't be said of the 27-inch model, however, which is currently showing a 2- to 3-week delivery time.
I'm sure Apple will do what it can to get orders for the 27-inch models out the door as quickly as possible, but with that kind of delivery schedule, if you ordered a 27-inch iMac today, it might not arrive on your doorstep until December 22. That's cutting it awfully close if you're buying one as a Christmas gift. If anything goes wrong in the delivery process, which often happens at this time of year, it may not arrive until after Christmas.
If you're planning on giving someone a new 27-inch iMac, order it tonight and hope for the best. But be sure to have a fallback gift to put under the tree, just in case.
