Rumors Drive Apple Stock Rise Ahead of Shareholder's Meeting

By February 26, 2013

Follow me on:

Doug Kass, a hedge fund manager, has been tweeting that his "gnomes" are telling him that Apple will announce a stock split tomorrow at the Apple shareholder meeting. There is, however, a bit of trouble with such a rumor. Apple shareholders would have to vote on a stock split, so Apple couldn't simply announce a stock split tomorrow. And while I think most shareholders would probably want to see a stock split, it's not a done deal as portrayed in the rumor.

MacRumors has a nice piece outlining the rumor, including reasons why the rumor should be called into question.

A stock split in and of itself doesn't add any value directly to held shares or to Apple. It does, however, provide more room for the stock value to increase over time.

What do you think? Is it time for Apple to split its stock? Let us know in the comment section below.
