At its "Uncarrier" press event today, T-Mobile announced that it will start carrying the Apple iPhone 5. T-Mobile is the last of the major U.S. market carriers to offer the iPhone 5 directly.

The iPhone 5 that T-Mobile will be selling is a slightly tweaked version of the one that is currently sold for the AT&T network. The modifications involve tweaking the radio to support the Advanced Wireless Service (AWS) used by T-Mobile networks.
According to an Apple representative who spoke with Engadget, existing iPhone 5 models can't be upgraded to run on the AWS system; only the new AWS-compatible version of the iPhone 5 will work.
The new T-Mobile version of the iPhone 5 will be available starting April 12th, 2013. The iPhone 5 will be available from T-Mobile unlocked at full retail price, which can be paid at time of purchase or spread out over a 24-month period.
