Sticky notes and to-do lists have their place, but sometimes there's a better way to mark something for attention. In Apple Mail, you can use the flag feature to mark incoming (or any other) messages that need further action.

  • To flag a message, click once on the message to select it, then select Mark, As Flagged from the Message menu. A flag icon will appear next to the message.

  • To flag a group of messages, select the messages, then select Mark, As Flagged from the Message menu.

  • To organize flagged messages into a group, click the flag column header in the Mail viewer window.

  • To remove the flag from a message, click once on the message to select it, then select Mark, As Unflagged from the Message menu.

  • To remove the flag from a group of messages, select the messages, then select Mark, As Unflagged from the Message menu.

You can also use Smart Mailboxes to keep email messages from getting lost in the crowd.
