Turn a Web Clipping Into a Widget

Now that we’ve zeroed in on the local weather map, we’ll use Safari to turn it into a fully functional widget.

Open the Web Page in Dashboard

  1. Click Safari’s File menu, and select ‘Open in Dashboard.’
  2. The web page will dim and a selection box will follow your cursor, highlighting sections of the page as you move the mouse.
  3. Move the mouse cursor over the weather radar map, and click once on the map to select it.
  4. Extend the selection area to include the map’s control features. On The Weather Channel, the controls include the option to show the map in motion.
  5. Use the mouse to grab one of the circular selection points that surround the map.
  6. Click and drag the selection point until the map controls are included in the selection.
  7. You can use any selection point to expand or contract the area selected.
  8. When you’ve selected the area you want to include, go to the purple banner at the top of the page and click the ‘Add’ button.
