Vista supports two types of installations: upgrade and custom. If you're installing Vista to a new virtual machine, as you will be in this guide, your only option will be a custom install.
Choose the Installation Type
- Select the type of installation you want to perform.
- Upgrade. This option, which is only available if Windows is already installed, keeps your current files and settings, and upgrades your current version of Windows to Vista.
- Custom. This option installs a clean copy of Vista. This will be the option that most individuals will select when installing Vista to a Fusion virtual machine (actually, as mentioned above, it will be their only option).
- Upgrade. This option, which is only available if Windows is already installed, keeps your current files and settings, and upgrades your current version of Windows to Vista.
- Click the ‘Custom (advanced)’ button.
Select a Location for the Installation
- Highlight the virtual disk you created during the Fusion standard install. It will be the only disk listed, and will probably be called Disk 0.
- Click the ‘Next’ button.
Vista will begin the installation process.
