Definition:
An LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is made from two or more sheets of polarizing material, with a liquid crystal solution in between them. When electricity passes through the liquid, the crystals align in one direction, and block the passage of light. The pixels in an LCD display are similar to shutters, which can either be open to let light pass through, or closed to block light.
Examples:
LCD displays are increasingly replacing CRT displays, because they are lighter and less bulky.
