The Bottom Line
Designed for print and video pros, the NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi widescreen display produces truly impressive color images. According to NEC, it has a 91% NTSC color gamut and 93.3% coverage of the Adobe RGB color space. It also uses ColorComp and GammaComp to ensure color accuracy. ColorComp produces uniform white levels across the entire display panel; GammaComp uses a 12-bit lookup table to select 16.7 million colors from a palette of 68.5 billion.
Its difficult to justify the NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXis price tag, though. Displays that offer similar performance and features are available for significantly less.

Guide Review - NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi 26" Widescreen LCD Display
The NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi is a 26 widescreen display. Its size is actually a tiny bit misleading. It uses the same 1920x1200 native resolution as a typical 24 display, which means you wont see any more screen real estate than you do on a 24 display, but everything will be a little larger. If youve been struggling to read small text or pick out fine details on a smaller display, then a display of this size might be the answer. But be warned. Even though it has a relatively small footprint, youll need plenty of desktop space to accommodate the width of this display, and you may find that you need to roll your chair back a little to comfortably take in the whole screen.
The NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi has a matte LCD panel, which helps contribute to its color accuracy. It has a contrast ratio of 800:1, and a brightness rating of 400 nits. NECs NaViSet software, which is available for downloading from the NEC web site, allows you to adjust display settings using your mouse and keyboard. NaViSets user interface is well organized and easy to navigate.
The stand provides a full range of adjustment options: tilt, swivel, pivot, and height adjustment. The package doesnt include pivot software, so youll need to manually tell your graphics card that the orientation has changed when you pivot the display between landscape and portrait modes. A somewhat random assortment of hooks is available on the back of the stand for keeping cables under control.
Three video connections are available: VGA, DVI-D, and DVI-I. Both of the DVI connections are HDCP compliant, and will work with most graphics cards that have a DVI connector.
Despite its impressive output and attractive features, its difficult to recommend the NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi because of its high price.
