Use Finder Labels to Organize Your Files and Folders
A Little Color Can Go a Long Way in Organizing Files and Folders

By , About.com Guide

Finder labels provide an easy way to organize and quickly recognize related information. For example, you might use red for all work-related items, blue for homework or research items, and yellow for personal items. You can also use color to organize and identify the pieces of a project.

Assign Labels

  1. Right-click a file or folder on your Mac.

  2. Select one of the seven available label colors from the pop-up menu.

  3. Repeat the above steps for any additional files or folders you want to label.

Remove Labels

  1. Right-click a file or folder on your Mac.

  2. Select the 'X' in the list of label colors in the pop-up menu. The label will be removed from the selected file or folder, and the color restored to the system default.
