My Desktop
My desktop is pretty straightforward, but I did create a custom desktop image.
This is a photo of autumn here in New England, as seen from our backyard. The maple tree is near its peak color. If you look in the top left corner of the image, that's the window in my office where I sit down daily to work on the About: Macs web site.
What Motivated You
While Apple includes a ton of images you can use for your desktop, there's just something nice about customizing your desktop; it adds a personal touch. Besides the custom desktop image, I've also added custom icons for the hard drives attached to my Mac.
Tips and Tricks
- You can configure your Mac to automatically stretch, tile, center, fit to screen, or fill the screen when you use your own image as a desktop background. Since I know my monitor's resolution is 1920x1200, I used my favorite image editor to scale the raw image to the monitor's native resolution. This lets the image display at the best possible quality, with the Mac performing little or no processing to make it fit.
